| Q:
How tight should I run my tarp? |
| A: There
are several ways to tell if your tarp is tight enough... You should
SEE the crank arm bow slightly, approximately 1/2”. You should
FEEL approximately 40 to 60 pounds of pressure when placing the
arm into the retainer. You will HEAR the tarp creak as it tightens
under the latch plate. Where the tarp TOUCHES the end caps there
needs to be a good seal and no flapping should occur. |
| Q:
How can I prolong the life of my tarp? |
| A: By
making sure the proper tension is applied to your tarp and that
it doesn't flap and flutter in the wind. It is easy to adjust the
tarp tension
by taking the pin out of U-joint there are 21 adjustments to keep
your tarp tight, a slight adjustment to the right or left will
do it. |
| Q:
Why is the end plug coming out of the roll tube? |
| A: There
is a small screw that goes into the side of the roll tube and through
the plastic end plug to hold it in place. This is such a tiny screw
that sometimes it gets overlooked during the installation process. |
| Q:
How do I replace the stretch rope in my Front Roll Return? |
| A: You
will be removing the return assembly from inside the roll tube.
Remove the old cord and insert new cord through PVC tubes, washer,
and secure with a knot. Slide assembly back into the roll tube,
secure end plug with screw. Slide protective cover on cord and
slide cord through eyebolt. Let tarp hang over the edge of box,
remove slack in cord. Just as tube begins to lift, tie a knot in
the cord at that point through the eyebolt. For detailed information,
download the installation sheet under the support tab, download
the Front Roll Return (Bungee Cord). |
| Q:
How long does the bungee cord need to be to go into the roll
tube? |
| A: 11
1/2 feet for most applications, X-Wide kits are 16 1/2 feet. |
| Q:
Why does my stretch rope not return in the cold weather? |
| A: Stretch
rope loses its memory in colder climates; once the weather warms
up, the stretch cord will regain its elasticity. If you are using
the Shur-Lok® system in colder climates consider upgrading your
Shur-Lok® return with a Shur-Return or Cable Return System. The
Shur-Return has a lifetime warranty. |
| Q:
Why are my bows wearing out my tarp? |
| A: There
could be a couple of reasons, the first is not having enough tension
applied to the tarp when it is in the latched position. You should
SEE the crank arm bow slightly - approximately 1/2”. You
should FEEL approximately 40 to 60 pounds of pressure when placing
the arm into the retainer. You will HEAR the tarp creak as it tightens
under the latch plate. Where the tarp TOUCHES the end caps there
needs to be a good seal and no flapping should occur. The second reason is that one bow maybe setting higher than the rest of the bows focusing more of the roll tube weight on that particular bow. This additional weight, during the rolling process, may cause the tarp to wear quicker over that bow as a result. |
| Q:
Why does my tarp fall in on the end caps? |
| A: Your
tarp can fall into the box for a couple of reasons. First, make
sure you are using some type of ridge support and it is installed
over the top of the bows. If you have fabric caps, it should lie
over the first bow of fabric cap, then under the cap and attached
to the box. In grain cart and farm truck applications, you need
to
make sure that the first bow in from the end caps is installed
no more than 30” for optimum performance. |
