Business Adjustments – How Shur-Co® is Responding to COVID-19

Posted 05/13/2020

As the entire world adjusts business practices and business models to the constantly evolving situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, Shur-Co® is doing the same.

Many of our customers are businesses in categories deemed essential critical infrastructure under CISA guidance from the Department of Homeland Security. As such, Shur-Co® and its family of brands have remained open through this entire pandemic and we take the safety of its employees and customers very seriously. Some of those identified industries we support include:

Food and Agriculture

  • Employees and firms supporting food, feed, and beverage distribution
  • Employees engaged in the manufacture and maintenance of equipment and other infrastructure necessary to agricultural production and distribution

Transportation and Logistics

  • Employees who repair and maintain vehicles, aircraft, rail equipment, marine vessels, and the equipment and infrastructure that enables operations that encompass movement of cargo and passengers

Public Works

  • Workers who support to ensure the effective removal, storage, and disposal of residential and commercial solid waste and hazardous waste

Critical Manufacturing

  • Workers necessary for the manufacturing of materials and products needed for medical supply chains, transportation, energy, communications, food and agriculture, chemical manufacturing, nuclear facilities, the operation of dams, water and wastewater treatment, emergency services, and the defense industrial base.

Because of the importance of supporting these businesses and many others, we would like to communicate some of the measures we have implemented to sustain a healthy environment for our employees and customers.

Business Travel
Since early March, we have suspended business travel for all associates. This included travel related to sales and marketing visits, administrative needs and engineering/technical support. Our relationships with our customers are important to the way we do business and we look forward to that time when we can resume those visits. Until then, we continue to monitor the current environment and will re-establish those visits when we feel more comfortable about the safety of our employees and our customers.

Vendor Visits
Just as important as maintaining relationships with our customers, we value the ability to make connections with our partners on the supply side of our business. In the current environment, however, we have strict measures in place that restrict outside visitors from entering our facilities in the best interest of our employees’ safety as well as that of our customers. Like outbound business travel, we look forward to the day we can relax these measures, but until then we will continue our current policy of conducting business over the phone, email and video-conferencing when possible.

Customer Access
Shur-Co® operates eleven facilities around the world and each of them are being operated with best interests in mind of our employees and customers. As several of these locations are sales and service locations as well as distribution points, we have enacted several measures to protect both employees and customers alike. We offer contactless parts pick up with procedures posted on the doors of those facilities and encourage physical distancing during necessary customer interactions.

As we have always offered, we can ship products directly to you from any one of our 11 facilities. And, as noted in our previous blog post, you have a number of different options to purchase Genuine Shur-Co® parts, including our extensive dealer base – many of which have their own safety measures in place to protect customers and employees.

Production Areas
The production processes in each of our manufacturing facilities generally allow for physical distancing between employees during the workday. In those areas that don’t permit for separation between employees, we have enacted necessary measures that protect employees as much as possible. In the non-production areas, we regularly sanitize surfaces, have established numerous hand sanitizing stations and encouraged continued physical distancing during breaks.

We will continue monitoring the current conditions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and adjust business practices as needed. We look forward to continuing to serve our customers around the world and encourage you to reach out to us with any questions or concerns you may have about our response.
